Gypsy Blood A Tribute To Jimi Hendrix Vol.2 (2005)

Various artists (Horizon, 23)

In March 2003 Steve Lukather recorded Third stone from the sun and Hear my train a comin', together with Simon Phillips and John Pierce. In 2003 Comet released the first part of the Jimi Hendrix tribute project, called Voodoo crossing, with Third stone from the sun. In January 2005 Comet released the second part of the Hendrix project: Gypsy blood, with Luke's version of Hear my train a comin'.

Lukather: "The track is 100% live, vocals and all. It's classic Jimi blues. The hardest thing about cutting this tune was finding the definitive version. There are many! We called around and thanks to Tony Spinner (a great friend and a great guitar player) he sent over the right version and we clocked the Woodstock version and off we went. I really wanted to capture a true live feel on this. In the middle of the take I was sitting singing and playing and the chair broke and I fell on my knees as I started my solo and I just went with it. It made me play different, that's for sure, hahaha. This is the kind of music that must be captured live. I hope Jimi likes what we did. It was all done with love and respect."
