  1. Interview with Steve Weingart

    In celebration of their new project Steve Weingart (keyboards) and Renee Jones (bass), both members of Steve Lukather's band, played a Show at the Baked Potato in North Hollywood, California on March 3rd 2012. This gig showcased their new CD 'Dialogue'. Rounding out the ensemble were Simon Phillips (Toto, The Who, Jeff Beck) on drums, Mike Miller (Chick Corea, Bette Midler, Gino Vanelli) on guitar and Katisse Buckingham on saxophone and flute.

    While catching a Steve Lukather gig at the Baked Potato extremely talented writer,producer and musician CJ Vanston was at the gig. He is a musical cohort of Luke and was kind enough to share a few minutes with me even though he was just there to enjoy a night out to see some friends and catch some music.

    The Grammy Museum has a special series of up close and personal question and answer/live performance programs at the Clive Davis Theater in Los Angeles,Ca. Steve Lukather was invited to the Guitar Greats edition of the program on October 24th 2011. The nights moderator was Los Angeles Vice President, Foundations Scott Goldman. The Stunning 30,000 square foot Museum and it's staff warmly welcomed Steve to it's downtown location.

    Steve Weingart, Steve Lukathers' keyboard player and musical director, has recorded a new CD called "Dialogue" with his wife Renee Jones. Weingart invited me down to Simon Phillips' Los Angeles area Phantom Recording Studio the day Luke was there to record his guitar parts on two tracks.

    Lukather: "It was a real honor last Wednesday. So many memories and reunions with dear old friends and I have to say Quincy treated me and the guys with such love... I was 23 when I did the DUDE record, 24-25 for Thriller etc... all the songs and HIS body of work... To be a small part of a HUGE musical legacy was humbling and I still can't believe 30+ years have gone by. God Bless and thanks Q and Nathan East for making it happen! My older kids were there... it was a very special night I won't forget. Special thanks to my old friend and session Guitar Master Dean Parks for lending me his gear."

  10. Toto members play "Human Nature" with Q. Jones

    David Paich, Steve Lukather, Steve Porcaro and Nathan East will be joining Quincy Jones on September 7th at the Hollywood Bowl to play "Human Nature" (as they did on the original record "Thriller") as a Michael Jackson tribute. Try to make it out if you can as this promises to be a very special event!

    On Saturday April 23rd, Brian May received the Eddy Christiani Award at the Arsenaal Theater in Vlissingen, Holland. Steve Lukather, the winner of the award in 2010, couldn't make it to be present in person BUT made a warm, personal message for his friend Brian. Brian's reaction on stage is clear: he was deeply touched!

    Lukather: "I JUST found out I was voted one of the 10 best session players of all time by Gibson. I am truly without words. I mean the guys up there are legends, and friends too in many cases but I never in a million years thought I would make the cut on something like this. I didn't even KNOW about it till now. I am humbled and honored and speechless. Thanks to those that voted. Damn... what a surprise."

  14. Lukather at the Jason Becker benefit concert

    Once again Steve Lukather was there at a benefit chipping in to help the cause. This time it was for Jason Becker who has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gerighs' Disease). In 1989 Becker was given 3 to 5 years to live, hence the name of the benefit, Jason Becker's not Dead Yet! The benefit was to collect money towards medical supplies for Jason as well as a trust fund to provide for future security. This gig took place at Slim's in San Francisco, Ca.

    Lukather: "The world lost a Giant... Gary Moore. I was a fan for sure. Amazing touch and chops... whew... fire! I had the honor of sharing the bill with him in 2001 at Montreux Jazz Festival. I was with Larry Carlton at the time... he was such a nice guy and a MONSTER player. He will be missed. Man... this stuff is happening WAY too much for me. I pray you are all well and God bless."

    According to The Pulse of Radio, Gibson.com has compiled a list of the 10 greatest guitar riffs of the Eighties, or as the site put it, the 10 riffs "we deem the most totally awesome of the (decade)." Included on the list are riffs from acts like RUSH, GUNS N' ROSES, JUDAS PRIEST and AC/DC, along with more surprising inclusions from MICHAEL JACKSON and THE CLASH. The list is on Gibson.com, along with an excerpt from the reason for each. Number 7 on the list is "Beat it" by Michael Jackson, featuring Steve Lukather: "Yes, it had that insane guitar solo by Eddie Van Halen, but the engine driving the song was a weighty bounce by session whiz Steve Lukather."
